The Genetic Systems™ HIV-1 Western Blot is a supplemental, more specific test for the detection of antibodies to HIV-1. The solid phase antigens are derived from LAV strain of HIV-1 grown in the CEM cell line. Use of the CEM cell line, which is devoid of HLA Class ll antigens, helps reduce cross reactivity to cell related, nonviral bands. In addition, the Genetic Systems HIV-1 Western Blot offers a same-day procedure for faster turn around, as well as a dried blood spot protocol for applications |
